Before we ever talk to a first-time group about what to wear, we’re already looking at the wind flag on the dock, because that tells us more about your evening than the forecast does. A light onshore breeze means a smooth ride out and a slightly bumpier ride home once the sun drops and the wind has more say. We plan our route with that return leg in mind from the start, angling wide of any chop rather than punching straight through it, so the last twenty minutes feel as calm as the first.
Seating is the detail most first-timers don’t think to ask about, and it matters more than which cruise you book. We’ll usually steer newcomers toward the rail seats a little forward of the engine, close enough to feel part of the view without catching engine noise or exhaust on a following wind. Couples angling for photos get pointed toward whichever side the sun is actually setting on that week, since the horizon shifts noticeably from a summer sunset to a winter one along Naples Bay.
The one thing almost nobody packs for is how much the air cools the moment the sun actually drops below the horizon. It’s a small thing, but a light layer that felt unnecessary at boarding earns its keep for that last stretch home.
