Why Sunset by Boat

The whole golden hour, just for you

Sharing a sunset cruise is lovely — but having the boat to yourselves is something else. A private charter lets your captain set the pace entirely around you: linger at the prettiest vantage, pop a bottle, propose, or just sit in happy silence as the sky changes.

Choose your departure — downtown Naples for the bay and Gordon Pass, or Goodland for the wild Ten Thousand Islands — and tell us the vibe. We’ll handle music, a smooth route and the best seat for the light. Add champagne, décor or a dinner stop and we’ll make it happen.

It’s the go-to for proposals, anniversaries, milestone birthdays and any evening that’s worth doing right.

Private Sunset Cruise: choosing your line out Gordon Pass or into the bay

Book a private sunset and the first real decision is yours, even if you don’t realize you’re making it: which way we point the bow. Ask most groups what they want and you’ll get “surprise us,” so your captain reads the crowd instead — a birthday table full of grandparents settles into a slower, sheltered run, while a couple marking an anniversary usually wants the wide-open horizon. That read happens fast, in the first few minutes at the dock while lines come in and the last cooler gets handed aboard.

Most evenings we run straight out Gordon Pass, timing our approach so we’re clearing the jetties with fifteen or twenty minutes of color still left in the sky — enough to watch the sun drop from open Gulf water instead of catching it through a marina backdrop. On a clean night with a light offshore breeze, that’s the run: flat water, a full horizon, nothing between your private group and the edge of the world. We idle well outside the channel markers so no wake rolls through anyone’s photos, then let the boat drift with the current for the last few minutes of color.

When the wind swings onshore and starts stacking short chop against the pass, we don’t fight it. We swing the charter up into Naples Bay instead, running past the seawalls near Port Royal, where the water stays flat and the light still bounces gold off the windows of the big houses lining the shore. It’s a different show — quieter, closer, more architecture than horizon — but a private group that came for a smooth ride over a rough one rarely minds the trade once they’re settled into it.

We keep the bimini’s aft panel on a quick-release track for exactly this kind of trip, so it folds back the moment we clear the no-wake zone and nobody’s sunset photo ends up with a strip of canvas across the top of the frame. It’s a small rig detail, but on a private charter where the whole point is unobstructed color, it matters more than which pass we actually took to get there. Guests notice the open sky before they ever notice the route.

Because the boat is yours for the trip, we can also shift departure by twenty or thirty minutes once we’ve checked that evening’s exact sunset time — useful if your group wants a longer social hour before the color starts building. If you’re weighing this against a bigger group sailing, our sunset tiki cruise covers the same golden hour with shade and more room in mind. For anniversaries, proposals or a milestone birthday, we treat the route itself as part of the gift — see how we build the rest of the evening around it on our special occasions page.

Good to Know

Private Sunset Cruise sunset cruise questions

How much is a private sunset cruise?

Private charters are priced by the boat rather than per person, so the cost depends on the boat and length. See live options on the booking screen or call and a captain will quote your evening.

Can you help with a proposal?

We love proposals — tell us the plan and we’ll set the scene, time the route to peak sunset, and even bring champagne or help with a photographer. It’s one of our favorite things to do.

Can we bring champagne or food?

Yes — bring whatever you like, or ask us to arrange champagne, flowers or a dinner stop. Coolers are welcome.

How many people can come?

Private sunset charters suit couples up to a small group; capacity depends on the boat. Tell us your group size and we’ll match the right vessel.

Which departure should we choose?

Naples (downtown) for bay, mansions and Gordon Pass; Goodland for the wild Ten Thousand Islands. Both deliver a gorgeous Gulf sunset.
