Why the Tiki Boat

Your group, your boat, your day

Booking the tiki private means no strangers and no set script — just your family or friends under the thatched roof, with the captain handling everything. It’s the easiest way to give a group a genuinely memorable few hours on the water.

Because it’s your boat, you set the tone: a laid-back family cruise with the kids, a milestone birthday, a reunion, or a relaxed grown-up celebration. Bring your own food and drinks, queue up the playlist, and tell the captain what you’d like to see.

Add dolphins, a sandbar swim stop or a sunset finish — your captain will build the route around your group.

Private Tiki Cruise: charting your own line past Capri Pass and the Isles of Capri

The first question your captain asks a private tiki group isn’t what time you want to leave — it’s what you actually want to do out there. A crowd that wants to swim and stand on a sandbar gets routed differently than a crowd that just wants to cruise and talk, and that call usually gets made in the first few minutes, once we’ve heard whether anyone’s brought a cooler that needs anchoring at a beach stop instead of just riding along.

For groups who want a sandbar, we often run past the Isles of Capri toward Capri Pass, where a shallow stretch off the edge of the pass turns into standing-depth water on the right tide — close enough to the thatched roof and shade that nobody has to trade comfort for wet feet. It’s a different feel than the open-Gulf runs: tighter water, more islands passing close on both sides, a little more scenery the whole way out.

When the afternoon wind picks up out of the west, we’ll swing the boat around to anchor on the lee side of whichever island we’ve stopped at, dropping the roof’s side shade panels on the windward edge so the group stays out of the gusts without losing the breeze entirely. It’s a small positioning call, but it’s the difference between a comfortable hour anchored and one where everybody’s holding onto hats.

Music matters more on a private tiki trip than most guests expect, since the boat’s speaker system is yours to run for the whole charter instead of splitting a shared playlist with strangers aboard. Your captain will usually check in once early on — softer background level during the run out, louder once the group’s anchored and settled in — rather than guessing at one volume for the whole day. It’s a small thing to manage, but it shapes the feel of the trip as much as the route sometimes does.

Because the whole boat is yours, we can also hold longer at a stop that’s working — a sandbar where the kids don’t want to get back in, or a quiet stretch where the group just wants another twenty minutes before we turn for home. That flexibility is really the point of going private instead of joining a scheduled run: the route bends around your group instead of the other way around.

If your private group leans more toward sunset and skyline than a sandbar stop, our sunset tiki cruise runs a similar custom-route approach timed to golden hour instead. And for larger gatherings that want the whole boat locked down for a milestone event, see how we build out a full private charter itinerary around your group’s specific wish list.

Good to Know

Private Tiki Cruise questions

How much is a private tiki cruise?

The tiki is priced by the boat (it’s always private), so cost depends on the length of the cruise rather than headcount. See live options on the booking screen or call and a captain will quote it.

How many people can come on a private tiki cruise?

Up to 26 guests, with comfortable shaded seating. It’s your group only.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Yes — it’s your private boat, so bring whatever you like. Coolers and your own playlist are welcome.

Can we add dolphins or a sunset?

Definitely — tell your captain and they’ll build the route around dolphins, a sandbar swim stop, or a sunset finish.

Is the tiki good for kids?

Yes — 39½-inch safety rails all around, full shade and life jackets for all make it a favorite for families.
