Romance, the Sand Dollar Way

Sunset, privacy & the Gulf to yourselves

Some moments deserve more than a dinner reservation. A private cruise turns an ordinary evening into the highlight of the trip: your captain idles out as the light turns gold, the water goes still, and the Gulf becomes your own private viewing deck for the sunset.

Make it a shared small-group sunset cruise for an easy, beautiful date, or go fully private and have the boat to just the two of you — set the route, bring a bottle of champagne and a little something to toast with, and let the captain handle everything else. Many couples cruise the Port Royal mansions on the way out, then drift through golden hour on the way home.

It’s also where the big questions get asked. We’ve hosted countless proposals, anniversaries and honeymoon cruises, and our captains are happy to help with the timing, the photos and the quiet conspiracy to make it perfect. Just tell us what you’re planning.

A Gulf sunset

Cruise into open water as the sky lights up — Southwest Florida’s sunsets are world-famous, and there’s no better seat than a boat.

The boat to yourselves

A private charter means no strangers, no schedule — just the two of you, your captain and the water.

03

A toast on the water

Bring champagne and a few treats aboard and clink glasses as the sun drops into the Gulf.

04

Glamour & wildlife

Drift past the Port Royal mansions and catch dolphins surfing the wake on the way out and back.

From the Helm

How we rig a couples cruise: private bow seating and the hush of Dollar Bay at last light

You’ll feel it before you notice why: somewhere past the last channel marker, your captain eases off the throttle and the wake behind you goes flat and quiet. That’s not an accident. On a couples run we time that pull-back to the last stretch of light, swinging the bow around so you’re facing west with nothing between you and the horizon but water. We tend to idle down early rather than late — better to arrive at the color than chase it — and let the boat drift the last few minutes instead of holding a line.

Before you ever step aboard, we’ve already rebuilt the boat around two people instead of a crowd. The forward bench cushions get pulled up and turned to face inward, so you’re seated across from each other instead of side by side watching the wake. We clear the casting deck of the rod holders and coolers a fishing or family trip would need, and we leave the bow open enough that you can stand at the rail together without stepping around gear. Small adjustments, but they change how the whole hour feels.

When the wind’s up out of the west and the open Gulf gets choppy for a slow drift, we’ll tuck instead into the calm behind Dollar Bay, a hush of water most of our other trips never visit. It’s shallow, sheltered, and quiet enough to cut the engine and hear the tide moving through the mangrove roots. We don’t announce it as a backup plan — we just quietly reroute, because the point was never the exact spot. It was giving you calm water and each other’s company without a chop rocking the moment.

We also slow the whole trip down in ways you might not clock in the moment. A family charter might make five stops in two hours; on a sunset cruise built for two, we’ll often hold at just one or two, giving you the full arc of color instead of rushing to the next photo op. If dolphins show up along the way, we’ll idle and watch rather than press on to stay ahead of schedule — there’s rarely anywhere else we need to be.

Somewhere in that first stretch aboard, your captain is already reading who’s settled in close at the bow and who’s still finding their footing on a moving boat. That read decides the pace of the whole afternoon — whether we ease straight into the quiet water behind Dollar Bay or swing past a stretch of undeveloped island beach first, so you get a few extra minutes of scenery before the engine goes quiet. It’s a small decision, but it’s the one that makes a two-hour cruise feel built around you instead of run on a set route.

Good to Know

Couples & romantic cruise questions

What’s the most romantic boat tour in Naples?

A private sunset cruise is hard to beat — the boat to just the two of you, golden-hour light on the Gulf, and the freedom to bring champagne and set your own pace. Many couples add a cruise past the Port Royal mansions on the way out. Shared sunset cruises are a beautiful, budget-friendly option too.

Can you help plan a proposal on the boat?

Absolutely — proposals are one of our favorite things to host. Tell us your plan when you book and your captain will help with the timing, find the perfect spot as the sun sets, and can quietly capture photos of the moment. We’ll keep the secret.

Can we bring champagne or drinks aboard?

Yes — you’re welcome to bring champagne, wine and a few treats to toast with on most cruises (a private charter is ideal for this). Bring a small soft cooler; your captain will help you settle in. Just let us know your plans when booking.

When is the best time for a sunset cruise?

Departure is timed to golden hour, so the exact time shifts with the season — earlier in winter, later in summer. The booking screen shows live sunset-cruise times for your date. Arrive about 15 minutes early so you don’t miss a minute of the light.

Is a private charter worth it for a couple?

For a special occasion, many couples say yes — having the boat to yourselves makes a proposal, anniversary or honeymoon feel truly private and unhurried. For a simple romantic outing, a shared sunset cruise delivers the same gorgeous light for less.
